Mission Statement:
“To facilitate, coordinate and direct fund raising efforts in a united appeal to afford the citizenry of Durant, Iowa and the surrounding area a means and opportunity to participate in and contribute to the work of charitable organizations.”
The Durant Community Chest is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was formed in 1981. It was formed to serve the citizens living in Durant Iowa and surrounding areas including but not limited to Cedar, Muscatine and Scott counties in Iowa. A yearly campaign is conducted to solicit and collect funds from individuals and businesses in the immediate and closely surrounding area. These funds are used to aid various civic groups and organizations in the Durant Iowa area such as scouting, summer youth programs, elderly meal service and family services. The Durant Community Chest benefits many civic organizations by coordinating a fund drive to benefit them all, whereas individually they would not be able to do so. The Durant Community Chest only collects campaign contributions and distributes them according to its budget which is prepared from requests received from the various organizations at a public meeting held each year.
